1974 Ads: The Bottom Line, Part 1

Selected 1974 Voice ads for the Bottom Line. But first, a little bit about its predecessor on the site.

Via cardcow.com. Description on the back of the card reads, "The Red Garter unique beer place night club deluxe. Continuous entertainment is provided by 'The Strugglers,' in the roaring style of the good old days. New York's largest and finest Banjo Night Club. San Francisco, Chicago, New Orleans, Philadelphia, Detroit."

The Red Garter was part of a chain of sing-along Dixieland Jazz parlors which originated in San Francisco. (The New York franchisee, Joel Schiavone, eventually had a falling out with the franchisor. He opened a similar operation a few blocks away at W. 10th Street and 7th Avenue South called Your Father's Mustache, which he then developed into his own chain.) Despite the Garter's heavy emphasis on nostalgia and the banjo, it didn't seem to be averse to other forms of jazz; the Fania All-Stars recorded two live albums there in 1968.
