1978 Ads: Other Venues and Miscellany, Pt. 3

5/1/78 issue:

There's some info and memories about Pantasia at a Flaming Pablum post on defunct NYC record shops.  Read about its original Washington Heights location here

5/8/78 issue:

I've been going through Ryan Richardson's Rock Scene archives at the rate of about an issue per day since it launched (even re-reading the ones I do own since I haven't looked at 'em in a while).  The process gets quicker around mid-'76, when they went to an 85 % pics/15 % text format.  The Kaye quote appears in his "Doc Rock" column from the July '76 issue, which I just read last week.

Reviews, articles, etc:

5/8/78 issue: "Scenes" on Punk magazine, "Riffs" review on Nick Lowe's Pure Pop for Now People.

5/15/78 issue:  Re-opening of the Apollo Theatre, Christgau on Pete Fowler and Andy Fairweather Low.

5/29/78 issue:  "Scenes" on S and M clubs, review of Scorsese's Last Waltz, Astoria Film Studio, Elvis impersonators.

6/5/78 issue: Lester Bangs on Bob Seger, Tom Petty album review, "The Kitchen Grows Up."

6/12/78 issue:  "Panic Hits Studio 54" by Nicholas Pileggi, "Scenes" with more on the D.C. punk art show, Bruce Springsteen at Nassau Coliseum, Christgau on David Johansen's new band.

6/19/78 issue:  More trouble at Studio 54, Andrew Sarris on Grease (the movie), "How Grease Got Slick," Georgia Christgau on The Punk Rock Movie (links to nearby ad), "Riffs" Gerry Rafferty review. [Along with Grease-mania, hearing "Baker Street" constantly on WNBC or WABC during the long rides out to Robert Moses beach (my Pops always preferred it to Jones for some reason) is one of my most vivid memories of the summer of '78.]

6/26/78 issue:  Greil Marcus on the Stones, jazz on the South Lawn, "Scenes" on Abbie Hoffman, "Riffs" on Cheap Trick and Stormin' Norman and Suzy.
