"Revisited" is a misnomer in this case, as I never did a post on '67 Cafe au Go Go ads. But
despite the redundancy, for the sake of graphic interest I decided to do one now. I'm going to include Garrick Theatre ads here as well--they did share the same building, though I'm not sure if the same management operated both venues. I'm guessing the upcoming
documentary on the au Go Go will answer that question.
[Since there's an awful lot of Zappa in this post, I'll take this opportunity to pass on a query I received from the administrator of the
Frank Zappa Giglist site. He's looking for information about a Bronx club called the Factory, which apparently later changed its name to Fantasy East. (I can't recall coming across any ads for the Factory, but I did find a
couple of ads for Fantasy East in two October '69 issues of the
Voice--the address was 4653 White Plains Rd. at 241st Street.) The Mothers of Invention did a show there, and several officially-released live tracks from that show list the date as February 13, 1969. However, he recently learned (via a
Yale newspaper article) that the Mothers may have done a show in New Haven, Connecticut on February 13, and it's highly unlikely they played both locales on the same night. If anyone knows of a source that might have listings for the Factory, please advise.]

"Pop Eye" reviews Cream at the Village Theater and the Cafe au Go Go (which Richard Goldstein describes as "one of the city's finer rock closets, where the lights twinkle like a Christmas sale, and the bare brick walls hiss reverb, and the clientele walks out smiling, their eardrums blown utterly.")

Just found this...The Au Go Go was my musical university starting in Dec of 66 with Butterfield with Bloomfield and ending around November of 68 with The Colwell-Winfield Band..I moved to Miami, Fla in early 69 and wound up going to a kind of be-in in North Miami Beach, and I see Howard Solomon..he'd sold the club a few months before..it was an Indian restaurant now...thanks for posting this.
