We provided a stage for many bands from California as well as NY. Grateful Dead, County Joe, Clear Light, Elephants Memory, Soft White Underbelly, Ritchie Havens,Wind in the Willows, Aluminum Dream, Federal Duck, and in Central Park Moby Grape, Airplane, Big Brother, and more. We were the first multi media corporation commune in NYC. Many bands played at our shows that later on became well known. We also played at the opening of the Circus in Toronto. We caused riots everywhere we went. I could pin it down more if I researched it a bit. I was in the cast of The Family in the Headquarters theatre across the street. I was fired that night and the cast dropped acid for the closing night party at The Balloon farm which we called Andy Warhol's Balloon Farm. There was a jam band playing there called The Group Image who lived in a loft on 2ed ave and 5th St. They later hosted The Grateful Dead on their first, ah, trip to New York.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12527609.post-19372767085278134112012-02-17T18:39:55.451-05:002012-02-17T18:39:55.451-05:00@ Jim from Sebring, Florida

We danced some, explored more and she had a day-glo daisy painted on her right cheek. We were married in Rochester, NY on September 7, 1968.
The fun we had at the Electric Circus was greatly helped by Brian Keenan, Lester, George, Willie and Joe Chambers (The Chambers Brothers). I have not been to a better concert since. I cherish her memory and every time I go to NYC, I go to 19-23 St. Marks Place and every time I hear 'Time Has Come Today', I stop and say a little prayer, 'Thank you, Lord, for The Chambers Brothers and the time I had with Angel.'
Thank you for letting me post.Unknownhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02396863342696612844noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12527609.post-70105359618357421622008-06-19T18:34:00.000-05:002008-06-19T18:34:00.000-05:00Don't forget about Little Richard, New Years Eve (...Don't forget about Little Richard, New Years Eve (I forget the year). I disagree I remember most of it and your Circus blog brought up a bunch of great memories. I was doing the lights (phycodelic light shows) at the Circus for a short stint in late September-October-early November of 1997. Although I don't have exact dates (memory feeling the years) the Chambers Brothers played the last week of Sept or first week Oct. 97' and also during that time period I recall 'The Guess Who' came down from Canada, there were others those dates but not as significant by comparison. The bands were booked for multiple night engagemnts sometimes for the entire week. Miss those chocolate/vanilla creams & real deli sandwiches (darn fast food takeover).

Thanks for the memories, DavidAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12527609.post-1153069799465124462006-07-16T12:09:00.000-05:002006-07-16T12:09:00.000-05:00Great stuff on St Marks and the music scene, I liv...Great stuff on St Marks and the music scene, I lived nearby for about a year or so around 1975, a lot of the good stuff had gone by then but it was still a fine place to be. Apt' on 10th just east of 2nd Ave...owned by the city of NY thanks to tax arrears and the rent was a nominal $100PM but they never bothered to come by and collect it. Rough area then but when I revisited NYC a couple of years ago and went down to the old neighborhood it had all been gentrified and looked upper east side-ish. The rent is probably a bit more the 100 bucks I didn't pay. St.Marks itself had been tarted up and surprise surprise they had their very own Starbucks.

Thanks again, Jim.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
