It was part of the Singer Bowl Music Series.

Re: David Peel - don't know if you're aware, but he passed away exactly 2 years & one day ago of a massive heart attack. I knew him first 53 years ago from hanging out in the Village, didn't see him for decades until 8 years ago.

Following his wake on the Lower East Side (where else?!), he was interred in Calverton National Cemetery on Long Island with FULL MILITARY HONORS. Most people didn't know this, but he was in the U.S. Army and had an Honorable Discharge. And he was NOT drafted.

NYTimes obituary: https://www.nytimes.com/2017/04/09/arts/music/david-peel-dead-composer-of-i-like-marijuana.html

David's wake, Part 1: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m2SseX7PsTg
David's wake, Part 2: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FSD7p6n-gxI Phyllis C.noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12527609.post-22636261560673404752017-03-19T09:52:38.280-05:002017-03-19T09:52:38.280-05:00I saw Chuck Berry at Pavilion when I went to see L...I saw Chuck Berry at Pavilion when I went to see Led Zeppelin. The crowd was not as large as one would think. I was able to get right to the stage and lean on it literally in front of John Paul Jones during the entire concert. He kept laughing at me and saying things to me that I couldn't understand. I also met & talked to Chuck Berry who was walking around the Pavilion, asked for a guitar pick and he said he didn't have any on him, He was with 2 girls about my age at the time (19). FYI, My dad work LIRR and during the Worlds Fair I would go almost every day during summer and weekends , got train and admission free, he worked at the Fair and we lived in Port Jefferson:)

(19)Dannynoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12527609.post-38448949707077729442014-04-23T15:54:33.362-05:002014-04-23T15:54:33.362-05:00The Led Zeppelin concert at The Pavilion was held ...The Led Zeppelin concert at The Pavilion was held either the last week of September or the first week of October. I know for a fact since I lived in Bayside at the time & went to the concert with about 25 friends. We all wore sweaters or jackets so it definitely was not the summer. Also I attended Woodstock in August, so I am definite it was not before Woodstock. The Jewish High Holiday's in 1969 were from Sept. 12 sundown for Rosh hashana & ended at sundown Sept. 22nd for Yom Kippur. The night we saw Led Zeppelin was the first time I smoked a joint (yes, I was not stoned at Woodstock tho I did have a good contact high after the first nite) & that was a week after the High Holidays. Also, Led Zeppelin really did not hit their stride till the LP "Led Zeppelin II) was released at the beginning of November & "Whole Lotta Love" was released as a single in late November. Plus I think that was one of the few weekends that I did not attend a concert at The Fillmore East.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18337076918610949306noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12527609.post-27091093095593731582013-03-10T13:04:02.601-05:002013-03-10T13:04:02.601-05:00Im making a film about the New York State Pavilion...Im making a film about the New York State Pavilion. There WERE temporary coverings put up over the exposed parts of the building, but they hardly effected the sound outside. Marijuana was in short supply due to Nixon's "Operation Intercept" and so many of us discovered other extremely mind-altering substances. Grateful Dead played there a couple of weeks earlier - I missed that one.Old Leadfoothttp://www.radiocircus.netnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12527609.post-26877984621364244692010-05-08T18:16:23.698-05:002010-05-08T18:16:23.698-05:00I attended the first of the Grateful Dead's tw...I attended the first of the Grateful Dead's two shows at the Pavilion, on Saturday 7/12/1969. Blind Faith played Madison Square Garden the same night (Mike Jahn's NY Times review ran on 7/14/69). Less clearly, I recall seeing Joe Cocker & the Grease Band (with NRBQ supporting) at the Pavilion, date unknown. It was most definitely an open-air venue for the shows I attended and it's unlikely that temporary walls would have been erected for any mere rock concert.Gramercy7http://www.nyrocker.com/blognoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12527609.post-86657546782056396092007-07-12T09:50:00.000-05:002007-07-12T09:50:00.000-05:00Regarding the NYS Pavillion concerts. It was wild with people climbing ropes to sneak in a $3.50 GA concert. They had this crappy new band open for them called Humble Pie. They really sucked in those days!

Another concert held at "The Pavillion" that I attended that year was Iron Butterfly.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12527609.post-57503534526513236382007-05-17T22:05:00.000-05:002007-05-17T22:05:00.000-05:00This comment has been removed by a blog administrator.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12527609.post-1165114689321531142006-12-02T21:58:00.000-05:002006-12-02T21:58:00.000-05:00During the Summer of 1969, in fact, right around t...During the Summer of 1969, in fact, right around the time of Woodstock, my brother and I attended a big folk festival held at the NY State Pavillion. Performers included Tin Hardin, Tom Paxton, Odetta, The Incredible String Band, and many more. For those of us who weren't able to make it up to Woodstock, it was the next best thing!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
